Covenant Love Discipleship Lesson One – BORN AGAIN by Jeff Tyler
“Yes, indeed, Yeshua (Jesus) answered him, I tell you that unless a person is born again from above, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” John 3:3
We highly suggest you study John 3 thoroughly and slowly all this week. Read it and study it many times. Soak in it and let it fill you up. The entire passage is awesome concerning several things you need to know, especially the topic of being “Born Again.”
Being born again also means being saved. You will hear many phrases and words that actually mean being born again. We are saved FROM our sins and saved FOR Jesus for all eternity. This regeneration process is called being born again. Basically, a person recognizes their sinful condition and recognizes that God came in the flesh in the form of Jesus Christ and gave Himself as a substitution and sacrifice for our sins. Our only job is to believe Him and trust Him. He has done all the work.
But there is a huge difference between “head knowledge” and what we call “heart knowledge”. It is not enough to just know it in your intellect or mind, but it must go deeper, to the very core of your heart and being. You must know that you know that Jesus Christ is your Lord and who He says He is. Upon being belief, repentance, and forgiveness, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of you. When He does, nothing will ever be the same again, you are born of the Spirit or born again. Scripture says that you were created to be the very temple of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in Scripture that He would come and dwell within you. He promised to never leaves you nor forsake you. He said He would be a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
So now you are born again. Your mindset is different. Your habits will become different. Your desires will become different, and so forth. You have been born all over again.
We want you to see this as if you were a newborn baby. The Father provides for and protects that child at all costs. He also feeds it and nurtures the baby. The father wants that baby to be healthy and grow properly. He wants it trained right and to grow into something very special. It is very important what that child eats and how he develops physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and in every way.
If the baby does not eat healthy and balanced meals, it can grow deformed, out of balance, or even die. The foundations of the beginning are so important. What we will become and how we function in life is determined and set very early on by our diet and habits and environment we begin in. The same is true in the Spirit.
There are four important nutrients and vitamins we must partake of from the Lord’s table in order to grow properly and become healthy, stable, and eventually strong and vibrant. These will be your next four lessons. Those four ingredients are….
The Word of God These four things are the very basics of your growth and stability. Without all four, you could grow deformed and out of balance. Without any you will die and fall away. We will explain all four of these over the next four lessons. They must not become ritual or religion. This is a marriage and a romance, and all four of these important vitamins and nutrients must be embraced based on a “want-to” basis. God wants us hungry and thirsty for Him.
