Covenant Love Discipleship Lesson Ten - THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT by Samuel Jeanrenaud How many have been to a meeting and just wanted to hang around because you felt the presence of God, and you found it hard to leave? Have you ever felt the presence of God so strong that you could not stand? God’s divine touch – kiss of God – Holy Spirit’s unction or anointing.
A personal illustration: I took my dad to a Kathryn Kuhlman meeting and went up to be prayed for. She pointed with her hand into the congregation. “Someone over here needs a healing.” My dad went forward, and while he was about three or four feet away from her, she just pointed her finger toward him. And his knees buckled, and he fell under the power of the Spirit.
A. Anoint – Hebrew Word is Mashia – to anoint with oil N. What the anointing is not…. 1. Not talent 2. Not personality 3. Not human ability 4. Not human strength. “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit saith the Lord.” Zechariah 4:6
O. Oil of gladness or joy. “Thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity, therefore God, even thy God hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” Hebrews 1:19
I. Inspiration – “God breathed.” II Timothy 2:15 – “Study to show thyself approved…” II Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is inspired by God (God breathed) and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
N. Negates or breaks the yoke. The anointing that breaks the yoke. Isaiah 10:27 “And it shall come to pass in that day that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder and his yoke from off thy neck, and yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”
T. Teaching of the Word – John 2:27 “But the anointing you have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you, but that same anointing teacheth you all things.”
I. Insight – Revelation – All truth is locked up in the Holy Spirit. For example, in Matthew 16:16 Peter said, “Thou art the Christ (The Anointed), the Son of the living God – flesh and blood did not reveal this unto you, but my Father which is in Heaven.”
Noise: Acts 2:2 – “Suddenly there was a sound from Heaven like
the roaring of a mighty wind storm.” Gifts and Ministries – If you are shy – boldness in showing your
faith. If you feel inadequate, the anointing will make you adequate. If
you don’t have wisdom, the anointing will give you wisdom. Saves His Anointed – Psalm 20:6-7 “Now I know that the Lord saves
His anointed king. He will answer him and rescue him by his great power.
Some nations boast in their arms and some in their weapons, but we will
